1. How do we find the units when we arrive at New Norfolk?
If you stop at the 60km speed limit sign at the edge of New Norfolk and call and tell us exactly where you are, we are happy to come and lead you in. Alternatively you can use our maps to find your own way to the units and call us when you arrive.

2. What do we do when we arrive at the units?
Call us - see the location page for numbers. There is no on-site reception or phone, but we are not far away. Because there is no on-site phone available to call us on, you will need to use your own mobile phone, or call from a call box - there is one near the Post Office in High Street. Of course, if we know what time you are going to arrive, then we can be there to meet you.

3. How accessible are the units for people with disabilities?
If your party includes people who are disabled, elderly or infirm then you should ask for the cottage, the house, which opens directly onto the carpark.

The block is on two levels, with two sets of steps joining the car park with the level that units 5 and 6 are on. There is one set of steps at each end of the car park. This means that they are not wheelchair accessible. The height difference between the car park and the unit entrances is about 2.5 metres (8 feet), so that is roughly the height of the steps you have to use to get from the car park to units 5 and 6. Both sets of steps have handrails. The units themselves are on the same level, with only 2 steps between one end of the balcony and the other. Unit 6 has 2 steps between the dining room and the living room.

The cottage is a freestanding house which opens directly on to the car park, so is easily accessible. There is one step up from the entrance foyer to the dining room, and one step down from the dining room to the lounge.

Valley View Apartments is on the side of a hill (hence the views!) so walking between the apartments and the centre of town would be difficult for unfit or elderly people.

4. Are there phones in the units?
No. New Norfolk is a peaceful holiday town, we believe phones are best left at home when on holiday! Also, because we only have 2 units, the phone metering equipment required is not cost-effective.

5. Can we connect to the Internet in the units?
No, for the same reasons that there are no phones. There are Internet cafes in High Street.

6. Can I bring my pets with me?
We are pet friendly, but we have to have limits. Pets may be allowed if arranged with us beforehand. We would not allow more than one dog, and it must be quiet, house-trained and under control by the owner at all times. Guests are responsible for any extra cleaning bills if their pets have accidents, and this cleaning can be expensive, so make sure they really are house-trained.

We can provide a fenced off grassed area where dogs can be placed for short periods, but they cannot be left unattended.

Please also note we request that owners pick up any droppings left by their dogs.

7. What is the climate like?
New Norfolk has four distinct seasons with mild summers and cool winters - but not as cold as you might think! The weather bureau has climate details for New Norfolk, including mean, minimum and maximum temperatures throughout the year. Note that temperatures in Australia are in Celsius.

8. What is the earliest check-in time?
2pm. We can arrange to store your luggage if you arrive earlier and want to unload, but we need time to clean the units before new guests move in.

9. What is the check-out time?
Nominally it is 10am, but we are pretty relaxed about it, so take your time.

10. Is there a good restaurant nearby?
Several. We suggest you browse the newnorfolk.org site for details of the many excellent restaurants and other attractions in New Norfolk and the region.

11. How long does it take to drive there from Hobart?
We regularly drive from New Norfolk to the Hobart CBD in 30 minutes withut speeding. In peak hour add 5 minutes. The roads in Tasmania are wide and empty compared with mainland cities.

12. How long does it take to drive to/from the airport?
Normally around 40 minutes. It is approximately 55Km but the roads are good and most of the way is freeway. Allow an extra 10 minutes during peak hour, just in case.

13. How do I get there from the airport?
It is possible to travel by bus, but with only 6 buses a day on weekdays it might be difficult to connect with a flight and travel same day. A taxi from the airport will cost around AUD$100. There is a shuttle bus linking the airport with Hobart. If driving, here are the directions:

14. Is there enough parking?
There are 8 parking spaces for 4 units (one is let to a permanent tenant). Even if all units were occupied and units 2 and 6 used two spaces each, there would still be 2 empty spaces, so yes, there is ample parking on site.

15. Can I fit my caravan/trailer in the car park?
There is space, but you will need to be very good at reversing, and you will need to be able to unhitch the caravan or trailer. The caravan or trailer cannot be more than the size of a large 4 wheel drive vehicle(SUV).

If necessary we can provide parking at our property outside town, which is a 5 minute drive from the apartments.

16. Is there space in the yard for children to play?
Unfortunately no, the yard is occupied by the units and the carpark. There are two large parks a short drive away at the Esplanade and Tynwald Park where children can run freely.
